Preparation is key for a successful job. Remove any furniture
from the room or cover with dust sheets, including your floor.
Remove curtains and use masking tape to protect fixtures and
fittings such as light switches, sockets etc.
The ceiling should be the first job
you do so your paint doesn’t drip
onto freshly painted walls. Paint
round the edges using a brush first
and then with a roller, work from
one corner applying paint with a W
motion in square sections across
the surface, overlapping at the
edges of each for full coverage.
FOR PAINTING WOODWORK
YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
Bare wood needs to be treated with a knotting solution first.
If already painted, thoroughly clean with detergent or sugar
soap and lightly sand the surface. Use a filler for any holes or
cracks and ensure the surface is smooth and free of dust before
you begin to paint.
Use a Primer & Undercoat as a base, apply a thin coat and work
with the natural grain of the wood.

You’re now ready to apply your top coat – as with the Primer &
Undercoat, apply a thin layer working with the grain of the wood for
a nice smooth finish. The finish will be better if you apply a number
of thin coats rather than trying to apply a coat that is too thick but
always ensure each coat is dry before adding another.
Next up, it’s time to get started on
the walls. Again, start by painting
around the edges of the wall with
a brush. Use a step ladder where
necessary. Use a roller to fill in
the wall, using a W motion again
to ensure even coverage. You can
use a radiator roller to take care of
those fiddly, hard-to-reach areas.
Dust sheets on the floor and masking tape along the walls and
floors will protect surfaces.
